The Abdominal Dermolipectomy or Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a Tummy Tuck, is a complex surgical procedure that eliminates redundant skin and excess abdominal fat, plus repositioning of a new belly button (navel) and also, adjusts the subjacent muscles.

What is the Abdominal Dermolipectomy or Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck

The Abdominal Dermolipectomy consists in the surgical removal of excess of skin and fat in the abdominal region.

In this procedure we do the simultaneous reconstruction of the abnormal separation by muscle flaccidity of Abdominal Rectus and Abdominal Oblique muscles trough surgical plication technique known as Muscle Tightening.

I left a vacuum equipment type Hemovac or Portovac that usually is removed in my office on the fifth day of the postoperative period.

This surgical technique allows you to eliminate redundant skin and excess abdominal fat to reaffirm the underlying muscle plane to get a flat belly as result.

The Abdominal Dermolipectomy is indicated in all patients who have significant sagging of skin and muscles in the abdominal region with excess of skin that don´t respond to medical toning treatment.

The magnitude of the surgery will depend on each particular case, taking into account:

  • Presence, depth and quantity of strias
  • Laxity of skin
  • Location of navel
  • Location and magnitude of Lipodystrophias (fat deposits)
  • Presence and degree of the straight diástasis (gap due to bad positioning of abdominal muscles)
  • Patient desires
  • Possibilities of the patient

This procedure obtains a flat belly, achieving the remodeling and toning of the abdomen.

Possible Complications

Among  the complications that can occur in a very small number of patients, are the following:

  • Bleeding, hematomas and seromas
  • Infection
  • Dehiscence of the surgical incisions
  • Anomalous  healing (keloids, hypertrophic scars)
  • Suffering of navel and surgical wounds

However, with proper care and control, evolution tends to be very satisfactory.

Recovery

The recovery is fast, mostly with a very satisfactory result.

You must use an elastopresotherapy strip the first fifteen (15) days of post-operative time, and practice for that same period of time, lymphatic drainage massages.

The patients can make their normal lives after the first week, but must wait 8 weeks for exposure to the Sun, heat, go to beaches or physical exercises.

A reasonable time of approximately 2 months are required to appreciate the excellent final result, permanent and very rewarding.
