The purpose of Rhinoplasty is the surgical correction of aesthetic deformities in the nasal region and can be done in conjunction with functional nasal surgery (ORL).
The operation is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, modifying the shape, contour and silhouette of the nose, using a technique known as Rhinosculpture, which allows to obtain western nasal features based on the facial balance and harmony.
This procedure by using an open approach through the nasal columella, it allows direct visualization of specific structures of the nose, and allows to solve nasal deformities of the tip and back, as well as wide and flat base of the nasal bone pyramid (as happens in negroid and half-breed noses).
How is the Rhinoplasty performed
The surgical procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis, and usually don´t last more than 3 hours on average, depending on the complexity of the case.
At the end of the operation, a nasal hemostatic tamponade is placed, which allows to the patient breathing through the nose, known as Merocel.
On the nasal dorsum anatomic hinged splint is placed to combat the nasal edema and swelling. Usually we use Medtronic or Aquagel
The nasal tamponade is removed in the doctor´s office within 72 hours, and the splint is usually painless removed about 15 days of the postoperative period.
Among the complications that can occur in a very small number of patients, are the following:
- Bleeding, hematomas
- Intense nasal edema and swelling
- Periocular hematomas
However, with proper care and control, evolution tends to be very satisfactory.
The recovery is fast and painless, the patients can make their normal lives after the first week.
Do not practice lymphatic drainage massages, and they must wait 8 weeks for exposure to the Sun, heat, go to beaches or physical exercises.
Without complications, the final result is very satisfactory, permanent and very rewarding.
