The purpose of the Eyebrow Lift is the surgical correction of the fall (ptosis) of a portion or the totality of the eyebrows. Also known as Eyebrowpexy.
How the Eyebrow Lift is performed
The operation consist to achieve the lifting (pexy) of the portion of the eyebrow drop, by a surgical technique of skeletal suspension to the Frontal bone (Erol´s technique), either using a non-absorbable suture material (polypropylene) or with the help of a prothesic fixation device known as Endotine.
Its performed trough minimal incisions and also can be done by Facial Endoscopic procedure.
In some cases where the eyebrow drop is due to excess of skin on the tail or the middle third of the eyebrow, the lifting is done through an incision of boarding on the top edge of eyebrow, eliminating instrumentally way the excess of local skin, achieving the lifting to make the synthesis (suture) of the surgical incision.
The surgery is corrective and can be done under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Usually the operation lasts about 1 hour and commonly it´s practiced on outcome basis.
Patients can also undergo chemical eyebrow lifting using Botox, but is temporary and usually don´t lasts more than 4-6 months.
Among the complications that can occur in a very small number of patients, are the following:
- Dehiscence of the surgical incisions
However, with proper care and control, evolution tends to be very satisfactory.
The recovery is fast and painless, with satisfactory result. The patients can make their normal lives after the first week, but must wait 8 weeks for exposure to the Sun, heat, go to beaches or physical exercises.
Without complications, the final result is excellent, permanent and very rewarding.
